Elly Bate, born a Kamillaroi woman at Wee
Waa, North Western NSW in 1959. She was
part of the Stolen Generation. Elly was taken
from her Quway (Blood) family at the age of
13 months spending 25 happy and secure
years with her adopted family.
A deep need to re-establish her connection
to her Family, Culture and Land, led her to
linkup, who assisted her to reunite with her
Quway (Blood) family. This has given Elly a
basis from which to explore her traditional
culture and develop an expression of her
connection with Thawun (the Earth) through
Art and craft.
Now Elly wishes to give her 2 children a
strong identity by teaching and encouraging
them to explore their culture to give them a
better understanding of who they are and
equip them as a Kamilarroi Gaay (Kamillaroi
child).
Elly produces a range of art including:
Acrylic on canvas, board, wood and pottery
Ink painting on paper. There are other
contemporary and traditional art and craft
forms with various styles and different tribal
influences.
